When the salmon are spawning the tour diverts to Quartz Creek to view this amazing event! Watch for bears and moose while your guide gives you a knowledgable account of the history past and present of Cooper Landing! Spend a day cruising the unspoiled wonders of the Kenai Fjords National Park. The narrated tour begins when your vessel ventures out from Seward to Resurrection Bay. Then out to the open waters of the Gulf of Alaska, around Aialik Peninsula to the face of Aialik Glacier. As you marvel at the serene surroundings, listen for the thunder of "calving" - a process by which glaciers shed giant blocks and slabs of ancient ice and sends it crashing into the still waters of this protected harbor. Watch for a variety of marine life such as humpback whales, orcas, seabirds, sea lions, and otters. A complimentary lunch is served as you keep track of your route on flat screen monitors. The winds can be cold, even on sunny days, so plan to dress in warm layers that include a windproof and waterproof outer shell, a warm hat and gloves or mittens. Spend a day exploring the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge on a thrilling Class II+ raft trip on the Kenai River. Nearly two million acres in size, the Refuge offers majestic wilderness scenery and multiple species of wildlife and birds. Your guide will steer your raft into Kenai Canyon and expertly maneuver over the exhilarating whitewater rapids then pull ashore so you can enjoy a hearty picnic lunch. Back on board, you'll cross Skilak Lake, a pristine, glacier-carved lake in the heart of the Wildlife Refuge. Or, on the rare occasion the Alaskan winds kick up three-foot or higher waves on the lake, the trip will end with a 1.5- mile walk up Hidden Creek. |
