Gardens of Stone, Ancient Trees & Whispering Waters
A SHORT WALKING TOUR EXPLORING A VARIETY OF NATIONAL PARKS WEST AND NORTH OF SYDNEY

ITINERARY DAY 1: Sydney - Katoomba (LD) Travelling west from Sydney we spend time in the historic towns of Richmond and Windsor before following Bells Line of Road to the basalt capped peaks which produce the unique vegetation of Mt Tomah and Mt Banks – time for walking and taking in the spectacular scenery of the Grosse Valley. From Bell our route takes us across the Darling Causeway to Mt Victoria where we visit Mt York for an interesting historic walk. Lookouts on the Southern side of the Grosse Valley are next on our agenda, followed by some late afternoon walks at Leura and Katoomba. Overnight: Mountain Heritage
DAY 2: Katoomba - Olinda (BLD) Retracing our steps we follow scenic routes through to Hartley Vale and lookouts above Hassans Walls to the coal mining town of Lithgow. From here it's a short run to the Wolgan Valley region, with its spectacular sheer walls of sandstone. Lunch at the old Newnes Mine Site (part of Wollemi NP) before continuing north through the historic mining towns of Cullen Bullen and Ben Bullen. We then travel into the Capertree Valley with views of Pantoreys Crown and the Glenn Davis Valley. A visit to the interesting shale work ruins before heading to our overnight stay. DAY 3: Olinda - Scone (BLD) An early visit to Dunns Swamp with it's tranquil waters and pergoda rock formations. Time for an early morning walk and cuppa before departing. We travel through historic Rylstone and down the spectacular Growee Gulf road into the Bylong Valley. We then continue exploring Goulburn River National Park before heading north through farming country around Merriwa and continuing on to Scone through Ovens Gap. Overnight: Middlebrook Station
DAY 4: Scone - Gloucester (BLD) From Scone, we travel along the Gurdy Belltrees Road, stopping to enjoy morning tea at the historic Victoria Hotel at Moonan Flat, one of the smallest villages in the Upper Hunter. From here it's on to the Packer Owned Ellerston property before we commence our ascent of the Barrington Tops, through Hunter springs. Lunch is at the headwaters of the Manning River. This afternoon time for some exploration of the 'Tops' – walks in the ancient beech forests and a visit and walk at Pol Blue. Our overnight stay is in the Gloucester Township with lovely easy walks along the river. Overnight: Bucketts Way Motel
DAY 5: Gloucester - Myall Shores (BLD) From Gloucester our journey takes us South East through Wang Wauk and Bulahdelah State Forests stopping for a walk alongside the Wang Wauk River and an old trestle bridge. Lunch and more walking at Alum Mountain (historic mine site) with great views over the Myall River and coastal lakes. Our route then follows the Myall River to our overnight stay at Bombah Point in the heart of the Myall Lakes system. Overnight: Myall Shores Eco Resort
DAY 6: Myall Shores - Sydney (BL) A late morning departure from Myall Shores will give the opportunity to enjoy the tranquillity of the Myalls but still give us time to explore some interesting areas on the way home, including a stop at Mungo Brush for a short walk. We then continue through Hawks Nest, Tea Gardens and Raymond Terrace. We lunch in Newcastle's Botanical Gardens then head south for a stop at a bush retreat in the Watagans before moving on to arrive in Sydney.
