Scuba...Two Tank Dive...Yucatan's Famous Cenotes
OverviewCenotes are the entrances to undergroud rivers. For certified divers only. The coastal area between Playa del Carmen and Tulum has a thin limestone surface that allows rainwater to filter through the ground. Over the centuries, a system of underground rivers has been created through which the water flows to the Caribbean Sea. In some places, the roof above these waterways has weakened and collapsed over time. These natural cavities, or sinkholes, are called cenotes and they've been an important source of fresh water since the days of the ancient Maya. This tour includes: - 2-tank dive - Services of certified dive instructors - Use of dive light, tanks, and weights - Lunch and bottled water - A unique underwater adventure! Get ready for an incredible experience as we set out to explore the world-renowned Yucatan cenotes. A vast freshwater reservoir system underneath much of the Yucatan, cenotes are the doors to an amazing aquatic system. The size and shape of cenotes vary greatly, from simple holes in the ground to wells and small lakes. Our expert cavern divers have identified 10 different cenotes between Playa del Carmen and Tulum to provide the most complete cavern diving experience. Diving in a cenote is done without losing sight of natural daylight. Each diver has a flashlight so you can see the incredible formations in the cavern, including stalactites and stalagmites that silently reveal the ancient geological history of the Yucatan. The diving depth is usually between 30 and 55 feet (9 to 17 meters), which is actually quite shallow, so tank air time is extended. Remarkably, visibility can be over 150 feet (50 meters)! Due to the fact that it is carried out in a partially closed environment, the dive must be organized and supervised by a certified Full Cave Diver, who is also a Cavern Diving Instructor. For safety's sake, there is one qualified guide for every four divers. - Please bring a towel, sunglasses, and sunscreen. - You will need to take a taxi ride to the meeting point, which is in downtown Playa del Carmen. Taxi fares will vary depending on where your hotel is located. - PADI regulations state a certified diver that has not participated in a dive for 2 years must take a refresher course. This is a mandatory restriction for your own safety. Please contact ShoreTrips for more information. Days offered: 7 days a week Departures:
