Bora Bora is a spectacular destination. The unreal turquoise water you see in photos is partly due to the shallow sandy water in much of the lagoon.
Bora Bora consists of a central island--with Mount Otemanu rising like a knife-edge from the center--surrounded by a ring of islands or "motus", with the famous Bora Bora lagoon sandwiched between the motus and the main island.
Virtually all accommodations in Bora Bora are the fabulous overwater bungalows you always see in pictures of Tahiti, although most resorts also have beach bungalows, which tend to be a little less expensive.
